After more than 23 years of uninterrupted production, CCI continues to be the world's leading provider of Vortex Generators

With customers all over the world CCI continues to be the world's leading manufacturer of molded vortex generators for laminar flow enhancement and drag reduction on aircraft. They have been used successfully on streamliners at Bonneville and on bush aircraft in the wilds of Alaska, Africa and the Outback of Australia. They can be found on aircraft in virtually every country in the Western Europe and in Latin America. Speed skaters, bicycle racers, ultralight owners, even the research labs of General Electric use vortex generators from CCI. Now a kit for Cafe racers is under development.
Specially engineered for aircraft applications, the 1" long by 0.40" high device is injection molded from UV stable General Electric polycarbonate. The "sail" is engineered to be stiff enough to impart the desired energy into the boundary layer but flexible enough to resist breakage from hanger rash and curious onlookers.
Flight tests have proven the geometry to be extremely effective in significantly reducing or completely eliminating elevator trim changes in moisture on canard equipped aircraft that use the GU airfoil geometry. No loss of speed has been observed with conventional instrumentation.

Many people do not realize that the "delta" shaped vortex generator you see here played a crucial role in the famous Voyager non-stop flight around the world. Threatened by a dangerous loss of canard authority in wet conditions and a frightening loss of altitude, Dick Rutan was faced with time consuming construction of an entirely new canard. John Rhonz approached Professor Michael B. Bragg, a researcher scientist at Ohio State University and asked that he attempt a solution. Using the Ohio State wind tunnel, their super computer and a full scale section of the Voyager canard, they not only saved the existing canard and solved the problem with specially designed vortex generators but significantly reduced the drag occuring at the rear of the canard. The design of this VG is an exact replica of the Delta profile VG finally used and continues to be the most efficient shape (highest energy- lowest drag) of any produced anywhere. They are also the lightest. Ironically, CCI's Vortex Generators continue to be the least costly Vortex Generators available anywhere in the world today. Wish to read more?Click here! On conventional planforms VG's have been credited with reducing stall speeds. VG's on cowlings of pusher aircraft have increased propeller efficiency resulting in elevated cruise speeds without increases in fuel consumption. When positioned upstream of the ailerons, VG's have provided more control authority at high angles of attack and in deep stalls where once only the rudder was available for wing levelling. One owner of a popular pusher amphibian reports significant reductions in take-off distance on both land and water and reduction of the stall speed as well. Careful placement of VG's has reduced engine oil temperatures for others and permitted lower VMc at higher gross weights on certificated twins using STC'd VG kits.
CCI's devices are not machined from extruded aluminum! Unlike other VG's, they are precision injection molded from General Electric polycarbonate using complex, cam action molds. Consequently, they are exceptionally light (). They have no sharp edges which makes them less likely to cause personal injury, to chip paint, cause propeller or ingestion damage or jam flight controls on either the host aircraft or neighbouring ones.
Available in clear (untinted) material as standard, they can be custom molded in quantity to match specific paint colors for aircraft manufacturers and OEM suppliers. Bulk discounts will still be entertained for manufacturer's on an individual basis for shipments of 3,000 VG's or more for clear, 6,000 VG's or more for special colors. The use of color tinted material does not compromise their ability to withstand harmful ultra-violet radiation. Please e-mail us for information on quantity discounts and special colors.
The bonding surface of each generator is flexible and slightly concave to facilitate adhesion to either cambered or flat surfaces. The perimeter of each base is feathered to blend with the surface to which it is attached. After installation, the base appears almost molded in, an integral part of the surface, rather than an "add-on". The final result not only looks better, it is lighter, provides consistent geometry and superior performance over labor intensive, hand-made aluminum fences. Molded vortex generators adhere better, do not corrode and while they require no painting, they can be. Easy to install, a Long-Ez or Dragonfly canard can usually be equipped with a full span of generators in less than 2 hours. VG's are NOT limited to use on hard surfaced aluminum or composite aircraft. Many fabric covered aicraft have had considerable success using VG's attached to Dacron and other woven materials, painted and unpainted. Adhesives are NOT supplied. However, instructions which are included are quite comprehensive and list several adhesives readily available in the US and Internationally for use in a wide range of applications. They also discuss methods for fast, easy, temporary adhesion so that flight tests can be performed and VG positions changed for optimization.
Domestic Orders: Effective April 25,2007, a basic kit containing 100 generators, instructions and alignment template geometry will be available In the United States for a delivered price of $ 75.oo Shipping & handling are included.
In spite of its superior performance, CCI's VG's are still less expensive than any other of our competitors! CCI is still the least expensive provider of light, high quality, proven VG's in the world!
Foreign orders: Please add $10.oo (US) to the cost of the basic kit for foreign orders ($85.oo US) and tell us what customs declarations, if any, are needed to provide duty free entry. All duties and taxes are the responsibility of the customer. These commodities will be exported from the United States in accordance with the Export Administration regulations. Diversion contrary to U.S. law is prohibited. Checks should be drawn on a US bank to avoid additional international bank collection fees. If not, please add $10.oo Bank Transaction Fee (US) to your order (Total $95.oo).
Wind tunnel tests suggest that maximum optimization of the aifoil is achieved with a spanwise density of one vortex generator per inch on canards and on stabelizers. One pair every 6 ro 12 inches on main wings. One basic kit (100 pieces) is therefore sufficient to optimize 100 inches of wing span on canards and stabelizers. One kit is sufficient to treat trim loss phenomenon on Long-Ez or Vari-Ese canards using the GU airfoil profile. Aircraft with longer GU canards (Velocity, Dragon-Fly, Q2 and Cozy) will require more. Documentation is included. Please allow two to three weeks for International orders. Sorry, no COD's Pay-Pal is pending and will be operational on or before May 15, 2007.

These vortex generators are intended for use on aircraft certificated in the Experimental category. As effective as they have proven to be on airfoils in general, to be legal on a Type Certificated aircraft the user should obtain a "One Time Field Approval" from the local FAA engineering office (Form 337) or Canadian DOT via similar application. Check with your AI or local Egineering office for compliance information.
